Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has issued a stern warning to traditional leaders regarding illegal land grabbing and encroachment. This admonition was delivered during the Eid el-Fitr Sallah homage at the Emir of Zazzau’s palace in Zaria.
In his address, Governor Sani urged traditional leaders to halt illegal land encroachment and promote peaceful coexistence within their communities. He emphasized that all land belongs to the government and stressed the importance of following proper procedures when acquiring land through relevant authorities to ensure peace and stability.
The governor also noted that the state government has received numerous complaints about illegal land grabs by village and ward heads, reiterating the need for adherence to due process in land acquisition. In addition to addressing land issues, he encouraged farmers to return to their farms, highlighting improvements in security conditions across various parts of the state.
Supporting the governor’s message, the Emir of Zazzau, Malam Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, reiterated directives to district, village, and ward heads to avoid unfair treatment of their subjects and to refrain from collaborating with illegal miners. He warned against encroaching on lands allocated to the Ministry of Forestry and made it clear that anyone found illegally occupying government land would face legal consequences.
The emir also reminded traditional titleholders with dual appointments to resign from one position as per the state government’s directive. This warning aims to foster a more orderly and peaceful environment in Kaduna State, ensuring that traditional leaders play a constructive role in community governance.
