The President of the Real Estate Developers Association of Nigeria (REDAN), Alhaji Aliyu Oroji Wamakko has said that the guidelines and protocols for both preventing and controlling the spread of COVID-19 brought to the forefront the importance of housing to healthcare delivery.
He made this known at the ongoing 15th Abuja International Housing Show themed ‘Sustainable and Resilient Housing Solutions for a Post Pandemic World, at the International Conference Center, Abuja.

He also reiterated the commitment of REDAN to work with the Nigerian government in the provision of affordable housing to the masses in rural and urban areas. This he said was to mitigate the effect of the Covid-19 pandemic and reduce the country’s housing deficit by increasing the stock of houses.
“The guidelines and protocols for both prevention and controlling the spread of COVID-19 brought to the forefront the significance of housing to healthcare delivery, Wamakko said.
“COVID-19 is still with us and new waves are emerging and affecting citizens of all nations. Consequently, sustaining housing solutions for a post pandemic world is a course that government and all industry players must continue to pursue vigorously.

“I want to reiterate our commitment to the provision of mass and affordable housing to Nigerians in the rural and urban areas of Nigeria to mitigate the effect of the pandemic and to reduce Nigeria’s housing deficit by increasing the stock of houses, the REDAN boss said.
“Accordingly, we are collaborating with government, her agencies, financial partners and stakeholders in the construction industry to achieve the above objectives.
“Our immediate focus is to build at least 100 housing units in each of the 774 Local Government Areas where feasible and viable under our project tagged Rural Urban Housing Initiative (RUHI-774) thus aiming at building 77,400 affordable housing units across Nigeria.

“We are indeed excited, and hopeful that this event (Abuja International Housing Show) will usher in practical solutions to housing challenges which we shall all benefit from, especially for our association (REDAN) who are the umbrella body of the organized real estate sector both private and public”, he added.
Wamakko went further to commend the Organizer of the housing show, Barr. Festus Adebayo for convening a show he described as “none other”, saying it has grown from strength to strength.
“On behalf of REDAN, I wish to congratulate FESADEB Communications Limited and Housing Development Advocacy Network on the occasion of its 15th Abuja International Housing Show, he stated.
“This is a show that is like none other. It has grown from strength to strength, in capacity and in content over these 15 years and was able to surmount the COVID 19 challenges to host the 14th show in line with the then new normal – virtual show.
“We at REDAN are proud of Barrister Festus Adebayo and his team for their passion and commitment to housing development advocacy and promotion, the REDAN president concluded.
