Several hours were torched in the early hours of Monday when an inferno occurred after a tanker fell around Orogun along Lagos-Ibadan expressway, Ibadan.

It was gathered many residential buildings were affected.

After the tanker fell and poured its contents, it was learnt angry youths in the area prevented men of the Oyo State Fire Service from battling the inferno.

They accused the fire fighters of not responding too quickly enough, noting their prompt response would have prevented or minimise the level of damages.

As at the time of filling this report, it cannot be ascertained how many houses or property have been destroyed.

Effort of the youths at combating the fire was also futile with the inferno raging beyond control.

It was gathered the fire service had to make a detour for fear of attack by the angry youths who were out in large numbers.

The source said: “More than one hour after the fire outbreak at Orogun, along Lagos-Ibadan, Oyo state fire service are yet to arrive at the scene of the incident to salvage the situation.

“The youths earlier chased the fire service away from the scene for coming late. The youth are still battling the situation but cannot do much.

“Our Fire service are irresponsible and nonchalant over the fire.

“I am certain that some house and property have been affected but no one can say for sure how many yet.”

However, it was gathered that while the situation lasted, security operatives, including the joint security task force codename Operation Burst and the Amotekun Corps, arrived the scene to maintain law and other.

Upon arrival, they asked the fire fighters to return but they declined for fear of uncertainty.

As at the time of filling this report, unconfirmed sources said the fire has continued to rage with houses among other property destroyed. The Nation
