The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, has announced an initiative to renovate and optimize the value of federal government assets across Nigeria while ensuring strict compliance with land administration laws.
This declaration was made during a Stakeholder-Citizen Engagement on Land Administration at the Victoria Crown Plaza Hotel in Lagos, marking the conclusion of a three-day working visit by the Minister and his team to various federal facilities and housing projects in the city.
Dangiwa emphasized the Ministry’s commitment to restoring order in federal land and asset management under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. “We are dedicated to ensuring strict adherence to legal provisions regarding the management of our assets,” he stated.
Highlighting concerns about the deteriorating condition of federal properties and unfinished housing projects, Dangiwa pledged to accelerate their renovation and completion. “We aim to optimize these facilities for better use, providing value to the government and Nigerians. Our goal is to fast-track the completion of housing projects to increase the availability of affordable housing in Lagos,” he added.
The Minister also revealed plans to modernize field offices into functional workspaces to improve staff productivity and operational efficiency.
Addressing the issue of unauthorized developments along the Lagos shoreline, where illegal land reclamation has become common, Dangiwa reaffirmed the Federal Government’s authority over shoreline titles. He warned that developers failing to adhere to legal requirements would face consequences. “We cannot accept the rampant reclamation and construction without proper clearance or authorization,” he remarked.
To tackle these issues, the Ministry has issued a one-month ultimatum for shoreline developers to regularize their documentation or face potential revocation and demolition of their properties.
This Stakeholder Engagement provided an important opportunity for developers, residents, and key stakeholders to share ideas and contribute to the Federal Government’s strategy for sustainable urban development.
