iCreate Africa’s second skills competition to begin in Kaduna

The second edition of the Technical and Vocational Skills Competition organized by iCreate Africa is to start in Kaduna (Northern region) on April 19-20, 2019.

A press release made available to Viewpoint Housing News by iCreate Africa shows that Enugu is host of the competition for the South-east region on 15-16 July while Lagos is place for the South-west region on 11-12 October.

It said winners of the regional competitions will qualify to compete at the iCreate National Skills Competition in Abuja in December and stand a chance to become iCreate Skill Champion 2019.

The competition which showcases new technologies and best practices, is designed to meet the skills demand in the aforementioned regions.

Young skilled Nigerians can compete across various industries including Building & Construction, ICT, Creative Arts and Fashion, Culinary, Agriculture, Hospitality and Social Services.

The organiser said, “The event will also feature exhibitions and panel discussions around TVET and youth empowerment.

“Registration is now open for interested participants between 18 and 28 years of age who are practicing artisans.

The maiden edition of the competition held on 26-27 October, 2018 in Abuja was sponsored by Sterling Bank Plc, Robert Bosch Nigeria Ltd., giz, the German Embassy Abuja, Industrial Training Fund (ITF), Nigerian Embassy Berlin, Trace TV, Cachez Design, Soundcity, and the Fashion Academy Abuja.

Forty-five participants emerged as winners from 14 skill trades and were awarded with cash prizes, equipment, endorsement deals, internship and job placements, training and mentoring.

The 14 Gold medalists where crowned iCreate Skill Champions representing each trade.

“The Skill Competition is an innovative strategy to curb the high youth unemployment, promote skill excellence and prepare youths for jobs of the future.

“By rebranding vocational skills, iCreate Africa is addressing the negative societal perspective affecting the acceptance of technical skill trades while upgrading the value of skilled professions,” said iCreate Africa.
