The Kano State Government has confirmed the deaths of three individuals following a violent clash between residents of Rimin Auzinawa and security operatives during a demolition exercise in Ungogo Local Government Area. The incident has prompted the state to launch an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the altercation.
Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Waiya, announced the formation of a committee to examine the factors leading to the land dispute at Rimin Zakara. He noted that the demolition was carried out at the request of Bayero University, Kano, which claimed the land had been illegally occupied, despite compensation being paid to occupants over 30 years ago.
While the government defended the legality of the demolition, it acknowledged the need for a thorough investigation. Waiya stated that security personnel acted in self-defense during the clash but emphasized that the committee’s findings would clarify the root causes of the conflict.
He extended condolences to the families of the deceased and wished a swift recovery for those injured in the incident.
