Kano State has officially shut down all event centers indefinitely and banned all Kauyawa Day Events, commonly referred to as Villagers Day Events. This decision was announced by Abba El-Mustapha, the Executive Secretary of the Kano State Censorship Board, during a press briefing held on Saturday. The move is part of a broader initiative aimed at promoting morality and maintaining public order within the state.
The ban aligns with a recent amendment to the law governing the Censorship Board, which was passed by the Kano State House of Assembly and signed into law by Governor Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf. El-Mustapha emphasized that the law grants the board the authority to regulate and monitor the activities of DJs, event organizers, and event centers throughout Kano State. Consequently, any event organized under the Kauyawa Day label is now considered a violation of state regulations.
The Executive Secretary called on community leaders and security agencies, including Hisbah and the Kano State Vigilante Group, to work together with the board to ensure compliance with this new directive. He stated, “Effective immediately, the organization of any Villagers Day Event (Kauyawa) is deemed an offense under the law” and urged all stakeholders to support the enforcement of this measure for the betterment of society.
