A High Court sitting in Kano under Justice Hadiza Suleiman has issued a restraining order to the Kano State Government and its agencies from further entering into the land that holds the state’s multi-million naira skills acquisition centre and the over 500 low cost housing estate situated at the Amana Mega City in Kumbosto Local Government Area of the state.
The court order with suit number K/453/2016 also restrained
the state government and its agencies from carrying out any building or
construction work on the land pending the hearing and determination of the suit
filed before it by Minsource Investment Limited.
Initially, the over 44-hectare land was allocated to Minsource free of all
encumbrances in 2014 by the Kano State Government for the construction and
development of China Town.
It was revealed that
no notice or revocation of any sort was issued to the investment company before
the state’s decision to put the land into use.
It was reported that the Kano State Government had erected a multi-million
naira skills acquisition centre and a 500 low cost housing estate on the same
land.
However, the investment company filed a case and both parties resolved to
settle out of court.
It was reliably gathered that Kano State Government had agreed to pay the investment company about N1bn as out-of-court settlement.
It was further
gathered that the Kano State Government’s failure to fulfil part of the
out-of-court agreement was what led the investment company back to court. The
case was adjourned to October 7, 2019, for hearing. Daily Trust
