The Lagos State Government has announced it has delivered 9,970 housing units over the last six years and aims to increase this figure to 14,022 by 2027. This was disclosed by Commissioner for Housing, Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, during a ministerial briefing commemorating the second year of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s second term.
The commissioner highlighted the administration’s comprehensive housing strategy aimed at addressing the state’s housing deficit. Key components of this strategy include budgetary support, public-private partnerships (PPPs), and policies fostering real estate investment. These efforts have been geared towards making housing more accessible to low-income residents.
Akinderu-Fatai stated, “The multi-front strategy enables the government to target accommodation needs while supporting developers through streamlined approvals, tax incentives, and financing models.”
Out of the 9,970 completed units, 3,994 were funded directly by the government, while 5,976 were developed through PPPs. Completed projects include the Egan-Igando Mixed Housing Estate (Cluster 1), which delivered 270 two-bedroom apartments.
Ongoing projects expected to contribute to the 2027 housing target include:
- Egan-Igando Mixed Housing Scheme (Clusters II & III): 576 units by Q1 2026
- LagosHOMS Sangotedo Phase 2: 528 units by Q3 2025
- Epe Housing Scheme (Itamarun, Epe): 112 units by Q4 2025
- LagosHOMS Ajara (Badagry): 420 units by 2025
In support of the education sector, 129 housing units have been specially allocated to teachers across the state.
Akinderu-Fatai commended Governor Sanwo-Olu and other key officials for their dedication to the housing sector, noting that their support has brought recognition and awards to the state. He reiterated that the administration remains committed to addressing the housing gap and improving living standards for Lagos residents.
