The Lagos State government has cautioned residents of government-owned estates against engaging in unwholesome behaviors that violate the rules outlined in their allocation letters. The Ministry of Housing has received numerous reports of issues such as energy theft, improper disposal of waste in shared facilities, and failure to pay statutory estate dues.

Commissioner for Housing, Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, issued the warning following an enforcement action at Lateef Kayode Jakande (LKJ) Gardens in Igando, where residents were found to be involved in energy theft. He emphasized that the ministry would not tolerate residents bypassing existing infrastructure like water and electricity systems, nor would it accept littering of the estate with individual solutions that disrupt the community’s landscape.

The commissioner also condemned residents who tampered with seals on apartments previously sealed for various violations, warning that such actions would lead to serious consequences.
