The Lagos State Commissioner for Housing, Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, has announced that 5,287 jobs were generated through the state’s housing projects in 2024.
Speaking at a ministerial press briefing to mark Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s second year in office, the commissioner stated that the housing sector created 13,749 jobs in total over the past six years, covering skilled, semi-skilled, and unskilled workers.
He said the housing ministry is also prioritizing skills development to improve job delivery at construction sites. “Over 500 artisans were retrained under the Master Craftsman Training Programme,” he noted, adding that beneficiaries were certified, given tools, and offered work gear.
In addition to employment, the Lagos State Housing Estate impacted 28,507 households by the end of 2024.
Akinderu-Fatai also disclosed that the ministry recovered N295.5 million and 20 properties through mediation between residents and developers. Out of 1,899 real estate complaints received, 1,243 were successfully resolved, while eight cases are currently in court.
The commissioner reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to exploring alternative dispute resolution mechanisms to address real estate disputes and enhance public confidence in housing delivery.
