The Lagos State Ministry of Transportation has temporarily suspended the enforcement of the e-call-up system for petroleum tanker operators along the Lekki-Epe corridor. This decision follows a meeting with various industry unions, including the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), the Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO), and the Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD) branch of NUPENG.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the ministry indicated that the suspension allows for further engagement with union members, who have committed to ensuring parking compliance during this period. However, the ministry has warned that enforcement will resume if the unions fail to uphold this commitment.
The statement read: “Rising from the meeting held at the Conference Room of the Ministry of Transportation, Lagos State, the ministry yielded to the request of the union leaders to suspend enforcement of the e-call-up system to allow them further engagement with their members.”
The unions acknowledged the importance of the e-call-up system in managing truck movement along the corridor. The meeting was attended by Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation Oluwaseun Osiyemi and Permanent Secretary Olawale Musa.
As discussions continue, the ministry emphasizes the necessity of compliance to ensure smooth operations and reduce congestion in the area.
