LAND DISPUTE CLAIMS SEVEN LIVES IN NASARAWA.

Seven people were killed and many more have been injured in a violent conflict between the Gbagyi and Bassa ethnic groups over a land dispute in Kudu village, Toto Local Government Area, Nasarawa State.
The Gbagyi people had set up their farming operations in a village that was purportedly overrun by members of the Bassa ethnic group, which sparked the fight. Speaking anonymously, a resident of Lafia on Tuesday disclosed that in addition to the deaths, the fighting damaged several homes and priceless farm products valued at millions of naira. The resident called for immediate assistance in the unstable Kudu neighbourhood and voiced alarm about the increasing number of attacks.

During an emergency executive council meeting on Monday at Government House, Lafia, Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule addressed the crisis. Governor Sule stressed the need for the topic to be discussed immediately because of the deaths occurring in the Local Government Area.

In addition to announcing preparations to call a conference with the residents of Gbagyi, Egbirra, and Bassa, Governor Sule detailed government initiatives to address instability in the area. Addressing perceived animosity and current mistrust between the populations is the meeting’s goal.

We’ll be able to investigate it further because the security services have already moved in. Most significantly, though, is that we will be holding a conference with the communities of Gbagyi, Egbirra, and Bassa as soon as we get back from Abuja in order to finally put an end to this. Governor Sule said,
