In an effort to deliver infrastructural development to the grassroots and to fulfil Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s mandate of Making Lagos State a 21st Century Economy, Lagos State Government has commenced the construction of a 1.3-kilometre road in Ayubu-Bashorun Street, Ilupeju Community area of  Ijede LCDA, Ikorodu.

The project which is intended to improve road networks in the community and to help reduce travel time for vehicles and humans, was flagged off by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Rural Development, Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje on Tuesday at the project site.

While giving his speech at the flag-off ceremony, the Special Adviser disclosed that the road construction is one of the numerous projects that Mr Governor has earmarked for rural communities in fulfilment of the T.H.E.M.E.S. Plus Agenda of his administration.

He reiterated that the construction of roads in these communities is a strategic effort by the State Government to engender ease of movement and to reduce rural-urban migration.

Nurudeen harped on the need for members of the Community to ensure they collaborate with the contractor in ensuring the safety of the workers. He also urged them to take ownership of the project upon completion by protecting and safeguarding the project.

Emphasising that the road project is scheduled to be completed in 12 months and the contractor has been mobilised to commence work immediately, the Special Adviser urged members of the community to support and cooperate with the contractor to ensure a seamless infrastructure construction that would benefit all in the community.

He also appealed to the contractor, Messrs. SVV International Investments Limited to adhere strictly to the delivery timeline and quality of work as stipulated in the contract.

Meanwhile, a member, Lagos State House of Assembly representing Ikorodu Constituency II, Hon. Abiodun Moshood applauded the Governor for his commitment to ensuring development reaches the grassroots, especially rural communities like Ikorodu, which would bring Lagos State closer to its dream of creating a Greater Lagos through strategic rural infrastructure.

He also thanked the Special Adviser for inspecting and recommending rural communities that are in dire need of critical infrastructure, which has resulted in the flag-off of the Ayubu-Bashorun Road in Ijede.
