On March 5, 2025, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) successfully prevented a potential fire disaster after a tanker carrying Premium Motor Spirit overturned and spilled its contents on the Oshodi-Gbagada Expressway, near TREM Church.

According to LASTMA spokesperson Adebayo Taofiq, the agency’s operatives quickly cordoned off the accident scene, neutralizing the risk of escalation and preventing unauthorized individuals from scooping fuel. The Lagos State Fire Service was notified, and their emergency response teams arrived promptly to manage the spill.

LASTMA General Manager Olalekan Bakare-Oki commended the proactive actions of the personnel, stating, “Our intervention ensured a comprehensive lockdown of the accident site, rendering fuel scooping impossible and averting what could have been a catastrophic incident.”

Bakare-Oki urged the public, especially motorists, to report any road emergencies to LASTMA through its toll-free hotline for immediate assistance. He emphasized the importance of vigilance and adherence to directives from traffic management and emergency response authorities to prevent avoidable tragedies on Lagos roads.
