The Oyo State Government has released N600 million in compensation to property owners affected by the ongoing Circular Road project in Ibadan. This latest disbursement of N200 million is part of a larger commitment to compensate a total of N1 billion.
Governor Seyi Makinde announced the release during an event at the office of the Commissioner for Lands, Housing, and Urban Development, Williams Funmilayo. The compensation payments, which range from N3 million to N5 million for beneficiaries, are intended to address the impacts of the project, which has faced encroachments over the years.
Despite the corridor expansion occurring before his administration, Makinde directed that compensation be provided to both legal and illegal structure owners. Funmilayo urged beneficiaries to avoid fraudsters and report any officials who demand kickbacks.
The project, which has roots dating back to 2005, was described by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, as “ordained by God.” Beneficiaries expressed gratitude to Makinde for his commitment to fulfilling promises and demonstrating compassion in governance.
