Members of the IBB International Golf and Country Club in Abuja have formally appealed to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, to reopen the club following a week-long petition signing campaign. Over 2,000 members participated in the initiative held at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium.

The petition drive, which began on Tuesday and concluded on Saturday, emphasized the importance of the club for recreational and social activities within the community. Members highlighted the adverse effects of the ongoing closure on their well-being and social connections.

The IBB Golf Club has been embroiled in a leadership crisis, resulting in the postponement of its 2025 Annual General Meeting and elections. In response to the situation, Minister Wike appointed Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem as the new Chair of the club’s Board of Trustees, succeeding Gen. IBM Haruna.

To further stabilize the club’s administration, an Interim Management Committee (IMC) was established, chaired by Peter Deshi. The Federal Government has deployed security personnel to monitor the premises and ensure safety while restricting access to essential staff only.

Many club members have distanced themselves from a lawsuit filed by a few individuals against the Minister, expressing their willingness to comply with any conditions necessary for reopening. They emphasized that they are not involved in the legal action and are eager for the club to resume operations.
