The Minister of State for Environment, Dr. Iziaq Kunle Salako, recently had a tour of the Dangote Cement plant at Ibese, while on the tour, he emphasized on the company’s environmental compliance.

The visit took place during the engagement of stakeholders and while the Federal Ministry of Environment evaluated certain expansion projects at the Dangote Cement plant.

As the country gradually moves away from its dependence on oil and gas, the minister pointed out that one of the main industries President Bola Tinubu’s government has targeted for economic diversification is mining.

Although the mining industry has enormous potential to grow the country’s economy, Salako noted that running a mining company comes with a number of difficulties.
In order to prevent negative effects on the environment, he believes that mining activities must be carried out in a sustainable manner.

Salako applauded Dangote Cement for spearheading the dissemination of best practices.

The Plant Director, Nawabuddin Azad, told the minister that the plant operates within 17 communities across Yewa North and Ewekoro local government areas of the state, saying they have greatly felt the impact of the company.
