The Oyo State Government has officially handed over 90 hectares of land along the Ibadan–Oyo Road in Moniya to the Federal Government for the construction of the Moniya Inland Dry Port. The event took place at the Secretary to the State Government’s Conference Room in Agodi, Ibadan.
Governor Seyi Makinde, represented by his deputy, Barrister Bayo Lawal, described the project as pivotal for boosting the state’s economy by promoting agricultural value chains, industrialization, and infrastructure development nationwide. He highlighted the port’s potential to alleviate congestion at Lagos ports and streamline the goods clearing process, thereby enhancing efficiency in logistics.
Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Mr. Gboyega Oyetola, represented by Permanent Secretary Mr. Oloruntola Michael Olufemi, emphasized that the Moniya Inland Dry Port is a strategic national project aimed at improving shipping services for importers and exporters while fostering industrial and agricultural growth in the Southwest. He praised Governor Makinde for his commitment to national development and collaboration with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, Barrister Akutar Ukiyama, also spoke at the event, commending the project for its potential to create jobs, enhance Nigeria’s logistics value chain, and stimulate both direct and indirect employment opportunities.
Oyo State Commissioner for Lands and Urban Development, Mr. Akin-Funmilayo Williams, expressed optimism about the partnership between the federal and state governments, assuring that the state would provide a conducive environment for the successful execution of the project.
Dignitaries at the event included various state commissioners and officials, all emphasizing the importance of the Moniya Inland Dry Port for the economic development of the region.
