Millions of naira worth of commodities and shops were destroyed by an early morning fire at the Orba International Market in Udenu Local Government Area, Enugu State, on New Year’s Day.
Parts of the market that sell beverages, foams, gallons, supplies, and other items were impacted by the fire that broke out at midnight.
The market in Orba village, where former governor Ifeanyichukwu Ugwuanyi resides, is the state’s second-biggest market.
Chigbo Odegba, a local resident, told reporters on Monday morning that the fire broke out around midnight, damaging many stores and millions of naira’s worth of merchandise.
“The fire started around midnight,” stated Chinyere Eze, a different resident. we have lost of millions of naira. The absence of the store owners aggravated the situation. Every item in the stores that were impacted was destroyed. Our New Year is gloomy, she added.
Meanwhile, the state’s Chief Fire Officer, Mr Daniel Ohaa, has confirmed the fire incident but thanked God that his men with the support of residents were able to put it off.
According to Ohaa, two vehicles were used by state fire department personnel to put out the fire.
“It was a midnight fire incident,” he stated. After receiving the information, our Udenu office moved quickly to put out the fire before it could burn any more property. Much was preserved, and much was destroyed.
“We’re lucky to have an office near to Orba. It was important in terms of the rescue efforts. We appreciate the residents that got in touch with us, and I’d like to thank our operators for their prompt response.
