The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted possible thunderstorms over the central cities of the country, including Abuja, Jos, Lafia, Minna, Bida, Makurdi, Lafia and Ibi later in the day on Tuesday.
Other cities listed are Bauchi, Gombe, Kaduna, Jalingo and Mambilla Plateau, Ilorin and Ibbi in Taraba.
NiMet’s Weather Outlook issued by its Central Forecast Office in Abuja on Monday also predicted day and night temperatures in the range of 27 to 31 degrees and 20 to 23 degrees Celsius respectively.
The agency predicted that the southern states would experience cloudy conditions over the inland cities with chances of thunderstorm and rain over Port Harcourt, Calabar, Lagos, Eket and Ikom during the morning hours.
It also predicted thunderstorms over Enugu, Abakaliki, Owerri, Onitsha, Awka, Umuahia, Akure, Lagos, Ibadan, Abeokuta, Osogbo, Ado-Ekiti, Shaki, Port-Harcourt, Calabar, Eket, Obudu, Ogoja, Warri and Benin.
NiMet predicted the southern states would have day and night temperatures in the range of 30 to 33 degrees and 22 to 24 degrees Celcius respectively through the forecast period.
According to NiMet, northern states will experience cloudy morning with chances of thunderstorms in Sokoto, Yelwa, Katsina, Maiduguri, Dutse and Yola.
“Thunderstorms are expected over Kano, Gusau and environs in afternoon and evening hours with day and night temperatures in the ranges of 31 to 40 degrees and 22 to 26 degrees Celsius respectively.
“There are prospects of thunderstorms and moderate rain showers due to more influx of moist laden wind across the country in the next 24 hours,” NiMet said.
