In a significant effort to enhance safety and restore order around Nigeria’s vital port infrastructure, the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), in collaboration with the Lagos State Government and security agencies, has initiated a major clean-up campaign titled “NPA Security Clearance Operations 2025.”

This three-day operation targets persistent issues such as congestion, illegal structures, environmental degradation, and security threats around the Tin Can Island Complex, Lagos Port Complex, and Kirikiri Lighter Terminals I & II. The initiative aims to remove unauthorized structures, abandoned equipment, and individuals engaged in unregulated activities that jeopardize port operations and public safety.

During the launch, the NPA’s Managing Director, Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, represented by General Manager of Security Mr. Anthony Edosomwan, emphasized the necessity of protecting port access roads as essential economic corridors. “Our port access routes are gateways to national commerce. This joint operation is crucial for ensuring security, improving traffic flow, and creating a more efficient environment for logistics and trade,” he stated.

The NPA noted that delays caused by the poor condition of port corridors have adversely affected trade and the economy. This effort aims to boost investor confidence and contribute to national economic growth.

To prepare for the clean-up, the NPA’s security division conducted awareness campaigns to educate local communities and port users about the operation’s significance. This outreach aims to foster cooperation and minimize resistance.

Dr. Dantsoho reaffirmed the NPA’s commitment to environmental sustainability and operational excellence across Nigeria’s ports, highlighting that this initiative is part of a larger strategy to transform the nation’s maritime landscape.

The NPA encourages all stakeholders, including traders, transporters, and residents, to support the initiative in the interest of public safety and national economic development.
