The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has made a strong appeal to the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) to rescind its decision to suspend disbursement of the housing loan to officers of the corps.

FMBN in letter dated June 21, 2018 notified the NSCDC of its decision to suspend housing loan corps over default in statutory remittances to the bank.

Speaking during a courtesy call on the bank in Abuja on Friday, the Commandant General of NSCDC, Abdullahi Gana Muhammadu, said the suspension has createda problem for the corps. He assured the bank that the backlog of remittance would be paid within the shortest possible time.

The commandant general, who was represented by the Commandant Housing, Oguntuase Adeyinka Kingsley, said, “It is never in our character for the corps to be involved in any default of non-remittance. It is a regrettable circumstance. We plead very strongly for your kind suspension of your “non-disbursement order in your letter dated 21 June, 2018.”

He further said, “Our officers have suffered this standing order greatly, simply because of our great expectation on your Housing Renovation Loan (HRL) and refund of contributions for both dead and retired officers.

“Efforts have been made so that the money will be paid very soon, this am double sure. For the sake of our past relationship, I plead very strongly for the suspension of the embargo and to resume business with us with immediate effect.”

Responding to the request of the corps, the Managing Director of the FMBN, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, said the bank was taking seriously the issue of irregular or non-remittance of NHF contributions by institutions.

“On the issue of the embargo, there is a need for us to sit down with your men and reconcile further the figures and chart a way of how the outstanding will be settled,” he said. Daily Trust
