Ogun reads land grabbers the riot act

The Ogun State Government   has vowed to deal with land grabbers.

The new Director-General of the state’s Bureau of Lands and Survey, Jumoke Akinwunmi, said, while taking over the leadership of the bureau from Biyi Ismail in Abeokuta on Tuesday, the state government was out to end land grabbing to boost the economic development of the state.

Ismail resigned his position as DG of the bureau on Monday to pursue his political ambition in the forthcoming general elections.

Speaking with reporters after the event, Akinwunmi, a former General Manager, Ogun State Housing Corporation, told those involved in land grabbing in the state to stop.

She explained that land grabbing activities would be eliminated through the extant law put in place to tackle the menace.

She said, “In terms of tackling the land grabbing issue, there is a law concerning this in the state.

“If you have a law and you don’t make use of it regularly, people can easily forget that such a law exists.

“Definitely we are going to make sure that we don’t shy away from that the law of the land regarding this matter with land grabbers.”

Akinwunmi said   the bureau would continue to provide services that would attract investors to the state.

She added that the bureau would review the processes and policies guiding land acquisition.

She said, “It is our absolute responsibility to ensure that we provide a kind of service that creates and attracts the kind of industries and businesses that we want in our state.

“In the next few weeks we will review those processes to ensure improvements where necessary.” Punch
