A violent communal clash in the Ndieguzu Agalegu Omege community of Ikwo Local Government Area, Ebonyi State, has resulted in the death of one individual and the destruction of at least ten houses. The incident, which occurred on Saturday night, involved an attack by suspected hoodlums, leaving many residents injured.
The conflict reportedly arose from a previous altercation dating back to November 2024, related to the burial of a woman who had allegedly been raped and killed. A local source, speaking anonymously due to safety concerns, stated, “More than 10 houses and property worth millions of naira have been burnt to ashes. The government needs to do something.”
Police spokesperson DSP Joshua Ukandu confirmed the fatality, noting that a fight between two youths escalated, resulting in the stabbing of one from the Omege community. Following this death, members of the deceased’s community retaliated, setting fire to several mud and thatched-roof houses.
The police have since intervened to restore order and have launched an investigation into the incident. The individual responsible for the stabbing has also been apprehended.
