About 25% of Nigerians still defecate in the open, according to Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation Joseph Utsev, who stated that just 18% of the country’s population has access to safely managed sanitation.
Speaking on Tuesday to officially open a workshop on safely managed sanitation in Nigeria, the minister expressed concern over the fact that while at least 46% of Nigerians had access to sanitation facilities, many of them still had unsettling attitudes towards sanitation.
The Director of Quality Control and Sanitation, for the Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation Ms. Elizabeth, stated that, the workshop’s resolutions would be applied to most issues preventing a safe sanitation system, which would subsequently guarantee a high-quality health system.
