The Lagos State Government has initiated another round of enumeration for residents affected by the demolition exercise in Oworonshoki. This latest effort, conducted by the Lagos State Urban Renewal Agency (LASURA), took place at the Oloworo Palace in Oworonshoki, located in the Kosofe Local Government Area.
The recent enumeration focused on residents who were not included in the initial round of assessments for compensation. This follows a demolition that occurred in the Coker and Ojulari areas of Oworonshoki at midnight on October 26, 2025, shortly after the state government announced that 79 property owners had received compensation for their losses.
During a previous communication, LASURA’s spokesperson, Adedeji Akolade, mentioned that another round of compensation would occur in November. On Monday, Akolade confirmed that the agency is actively identifying property owners for this upcoming batch of compensation.
“What we did today was to carry out the enumeration for the second batch. We are counting the number of property owners affected by the demolitions to assess the extent of the damage. Over 100 people were listed today, and the process will continue tomorrow,” he explained.
The enumeration event was attended by LASURA’s General Manager, Oladimeji Animashaun, along with various directors of the agency, traditional rulers, community leaders, and representatives from community development associations.
Animashaun expressed gratitude to the affected residents for their cooperation and commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his commitment to compensating property owners. “Governor Sanwo-Olu must be commended for fulfilling his promise to compensate residents affected by the regeneration exercise,” he stated. He also acknowledged the efforts of Dr. Olajide Babatunde, the Special Adviser to the Governor on E-GIS and Urban Development, and Gbolahan Oki, the Permanent Secretary of the Office of Urban Development, for their dedication to ensuring that all qualified residents receive the compensation they deserve.
Residents have been urged to collect and complete enumeration forms and submit them along with the necessary documents. Animashaun assured that once verification is complete, a new round of cheque presentations will follow to compensate eligible property owners.
