Petrol Tanker Explodes at Jigawa Filling Station

A petrol tanker exploded while offloading fuel at Shakkato Filling Station along Kiyawa Road in Dutse, Jigawa State.

According to the Jigawa State Police Command spokesperson, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, the incident occurred Thursday night but, fortunately, no lives were lost.

Firefighters and local volunteers managed to control the blaze, preventing further damage. The exact value of the property lost is yet to be determined.

Fireman Mati Shehu confirmed that the fire started around 7 PM, prompting an immediate response from the federal fire service. Meanwhile, Tahir Muhammad Ayuba from the federal fire service advised filling station owners to equip their premises with fire extinguishers for emergencies.

Mustapha Muhammad, the tanker driver, recounted that the fire ignited while they were offloading fuel, and he narrowly escaped unhurt.

Authorities have since cordoned off the area to maintain public safety and prevent looting.
