Houses and shops have been destroyed after a pipeline exploded in Etekwuru, Ohaji Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State.
The incident happened in the early hours of Tuesday.
The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Imo State Command, Chimeziri Lowell said the explosion was triggered by illegal oil activities in the community.
According to him, the State Commandant of the NSCDC, Raji Ibrahim and his team were on the scene for an on-the-spot-assessment.
Casualties are yet unknown.
Etekwuru is one of the oil-producing communities located in Imo State.
