The DG/CEO of the Nigerian Building and Road Research Institute (NBRRI), Professor Samson Duna has pledged to include Polytechnics in the Institute’s annual intervention efforts to tertiary institutions.

He made this known on Monday, December 2, 2024, when the executive body of the National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS), paid a courtesy visit to the Institute’s headquarters in Abuja.

Professor Duna in his address, said that lack of adequate laboratory equipment in tertiary institutions have been identified as part of the reasons there are poor performances among engineering graduates, and NBRRI in an effort to curtail this, created a budget and has continued to donate relevant laboratory equipment to universities across the country. He assured the NAPS executives that the next intervention will include Polytechnics.

He also assured the union body of the Institute’s commitment to sponsoring research within it’s mandate, and encouraged the students to carry out innovative researches which NBRRI will be open to offering its support. Prof. Duna assured the union that the door of NBRRI is always open to accommodate IT/SIWES students and Corpers whose field of study is related to NBRRI’s mandate for their internship and service year respectively.

The President of the National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS), Comrade Opeyemi Ridwan, in his address thanked the DG/CEO for the good work at NBRRI and the infrastructural contributions across the six geopolitical zones that has contributed immensely to the development of the country. He extended a warm thanks to the President and Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the reappointment of Prof. Samson Duna as the DG/CEO NBRRI for a second term of four years. He stated that Prof. Duna’s choice is to be described as a square peg in a square hole.

The Union leader said that his association is always looking to partner with relevant organisations for improved development for the betterment of their respective institutions. He sought NBRRI’s support in their respective institutions, stating that they are looking to enjoy the impact of NBRRI and therefore imploring NBRRI to intervene by contributing to the Polytechnics’ infrastructures. He, however urged the DG to continue to do the good work he has always done, that has earned him a second tenure.
