The Lagos State Government has issued letters of registration to some independent laboratories in the state.

The government said the registered private laboratories would join the Lagos State Materials Testing Laboratory (LSMTL) in the testing of building and civil engineering (construction) materials for quality assurance.

It added that the move was to address quackery in the building industry.

The General Manager, LSMTL, Olalekan Ajani, at the presentation of letters of registration to operators of the laboratories, explained that the Building and Civil Engineering (Construction) Materials Law, Cap B4, Law of Lagos State, 2015, empowered the agency to register all independent materials testing laboratories, producers and manufacturers of building and civil engineering materials, as well as ensure compliance with specifications.

“LSMTL also has the mandate to register qualified independent laboratories in different categories in the state.

“The intention of the government is to have wider coverage of materials testing across the state,” he added.

The GM enjoined all stakeholders in the building industry in Lagos to follow due process. Punch
