The Nigeria Chapter of the International Facility Management Association (IFMA) has appealed for increased cooperation amongst housing sector players in order to promote professional practise, standardise dwellings, and make Nigerians’ living conditions better.
At the fourth Facility Management Advocacy Day in Lagos, with the theme “Sustaining the Multi-Disciplinary Role of Facility Management: Harnessing the Prospect of Synergy in the Built Environment,” IFMA President Mr. Olalekan Akinwumi led the appeal.
According to Akinwumi, professional collaboration in the housing sector would be very helpful in closing the knowledge gap now present in the field and ensuring a sustainable business that complies with international best practices.
“This is a clarion call for everyone to work together seamlessly as there are many gaps among the professionals in the building industry,” he stated. We’ll live in a safe environment and conserve resources thanks to it.
The former minister for works and special guest of honour, ,Mr Babatunde Fashola, who was represented by Mr Femi Akinyelure stressed the necessity for political will to compel discussions and the commitment of stakeholders to implement the suggestions in order to advance the housing sector.
“In this case, the government is leading the pack and has also created an enabling environment for the sector to thrive,” he stated. “Political will is crucial.” Encouragement of the private sector to participate in this quickly growing economic sector is therefore appropriate.
The group was guaranteed of the government’s infrastructure support by Dr. Adekunle Olayinka, Special Adviser on Works to the Lagos State Government. he was represented by Mrs. Adenike Said’s , he also pleaded for states to embrace the vision of IFMA in order to find a long-term solution to the problem of building collapse and the resulting loss of life and property.
“IFMA has demonstrated the spirit of excellence in resolving sustainability and maintenance difficulties brought on by the state’s rising population, along with the related concerns of infrastructure, transportation, and technology to satisfy the nation’s expanding demands, particularly in Lagos State.
“I give the association the task of taking advantage of Lagos’ strategic location as one of the world’s fastest-growing economies,” he said.
Enyi Ben-Eboh, President of the Nigerian Institute of Architects, emphasized the need for experts to perform their best to preserve the longevity and integrity of homes. He stressed that it is the responsibility of stakeholders to make sure end users receive value for their money because resources are relatively few.
