Real estate firm calls on FG to support provision of affordable housing

A real estate development firm, Posh Hauzes Ltd, has called on the Nigerian government to support the real estate industry in the country as it is a ‘key sector that provides employment for the unskilled and semi-skilled workers’.

Hajiya Hauwa Zubair, the Managing Director of the company made this known at the company’s Dinner and Award night last Saturday in Abuja, the nation’s capital. The event was held to recognize the contributions of staff and stakeholders of the company that has seen to its growth and development.

“The government should provide lands for developers, there are lots of developers out there that are willing to do what we are doing but, the problem is the unavailability of lands, she stated.

“They should provide lands at very affordable rates so that we can be able to provide affordable houses for the masses”.

While expressing readiness to provide Nigerians with decent and affordable houses through innovative housing solutions, Zubair said Posh Hauzes is poised to bridge the gap between the high and low income earners by providing quality affordable housing through flexible payment plans. This she opined that it is to cater for the rising population of the country.

According to her, the past three years which saw the birth of the company, has seen it made efforts to develop the country’s real estate sector and with this she said, the company has been able to provide Nigerians with decent homes at affordable prices.

She added that it was clear that through dedication, commitment and support from the government, the momentum gained by the company to chart a new and more progressive path for the housing sector would soon be felt.

She also enumerated how it feels being a woman working in the real estate industry. “The real estate industry is viewed as a man’s world and that should change, she said.

“Women bring quality, compassion, empathy and won’t compromise quality and that is what we need in the real estate sector. We should not see ourselves as competitors rather let’s do more partnership in 2021. We want a lot of professionalism in our field.”

Zubair explained that the housing sector has knock-on effect [s] on other sectors of the economy, stating that for every job created directly in the housing industry, another job is generated, such as manufacturing and transportation.

One of the Directors in the company, Abubakar Ahmed, commended Zubair for her tenacity in carrying out the daily activities of the company, adding that the company is determined to enter into strategic partnership with interested investors. He also urged the authorities in government to check the rapid rise in prices of building materials to improve the provision of affordable housing.

Another Director, Nosa Osunde cited the fluctuation of prices of general goods in the country as part of the challenges developers face. However, he said the company has been able to use ingenious ways to surmount these challenges.

Also, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Youths and Sports, Gabriel Aduda, commended the management of the company for taking housing delivery to another level.

Some of the awardees commended the efforts put in by Zubair and her team right from its creation, and made glowing remarks of her and the company.

Engr. Lawan Ademola who got the Technical Advisory Award commended the efforts and energy put in by Zubair and spoke highly of her integrity. “The sky is her starting point, he said.

“Sincerely speaking, with the way she is moving, people are saying ten years but, it is less than that, she will be among the well-known developers in Nigeria.

The Best Contractor Award went to Mr. Olayiwola Abdulwaheed the Managing Director of Hibza Blocks and he said that the award is a form of motivation for him.

He said, “one thing about Hauwa as everybody has attested to is her integrity. For some of us that work with her, her words are bound, she is fond of not taking her words back.

Mr. Nasiru Suleiman, the MD and CEO of Wiser Estate got the Inspirational Award and sees it as special, having come at a time he never expected it.
