Late Alh. Abdu Abubakar, the Walin Keffi (Keffi No. 1) was a consummate administrator and a pioneering name in  Nigeria’s real estate industry. He was one of the earliest leading  investors in mass housing and real estate business in northern Nigeria.

Founder of Imani & Sons Nigeria Ltd  a company which was incorporated by the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) in Lagos, Nigeria on March 3, 1978, Abubakar died on November 25, 1992, having laid the foundation for the success of Imani Group today.  

The company offers services in Civil Construction Projects and Construction Management, Project Development, Renovation and Remodeling.  

Imani Group, a leading property development and real estate service group, has operated for 44 years and has the following subsidiaries:

  1. Imani and Sons Nigeria Ltd –Developers and Builders.
  2. Imani Aviation.
  3. Allied Ventures Limited.
  4. Imani Savings and Loans.

v. Imani Project Development Company .

vi. Imani Industries Nigeria Ltd.

vii.      Troppco Ranch  and Resort Ltd.

viii.     Lemu Rice Mill Ltd.

The group did its maiden estate in Bauchi, Bauchi State,  Rock Haven and Dadinkowa, all in Jos, Plateau State. The group also built an estate in Suleja, Kaduna road, which is the present day Command Secondary School. Furthermore, the group has mini estates in Kaduna State. The estate housing the Abuja Plant Nursery, close to Aso Rock, was also built by the Imani Group.

In addition, Imani -Shell Estate (Joint Venture) as one of the foremost estate in  Abuja, remains amongst the most highly regarded properties in Abuja, the Nigerian capital.  Also, the Pinacle estate (joint venture with UAC properties)in Imani estate in Maitama Abuja . Imani-Brains and hammers estates in life camp in Abuja  (joint venture) among others.

In addition, the group also built the Central Bank Staff Housing Cooperative Estate in Lokogoma, Abuja . They also built the National Eye Center Staff Housing in Kaduna and also built the Kaduna State Water Board Headquarters, the state’s Secretariat extension, known today as Olusegun Obasanjo House.

The group is  currently  involved in the development and planning of other housing estate and Multi-purpose commercial center in Imani Estate on a prime site in the heart of Maitama District, overlooking the city of Abuja, amongst others. Imani has built and donated houses to low income families in Kpegyi, Abuja.

Imani Group diversified into the agricultural sector with further co-operation in adaptive local technology for rural housing solutions.

In 2001, the group diversified into the hospitality industry where it had the Troppco Ranch and Resort in Kaduna State and Tilla Resort in Keffi , Nasarraw State.

After 30 years of his demise, it’s important that stakeholders in the housing industry acknowledge the legacies of a great icon, the Walin Keffi (Keffi No.1), whose feats/achievements will be difficult to wash away in the sands of time.
