Hon. Abdussamad Dasuki, representing Kebbe/Tambuwal Federal Constituency of Sokoto State, has urged the Federal Government to allocate an Abuja estate forfeited to the government to the Nigerian military to address the housing deficit among service personnel.

The estate, located on Plot 109, Cadastral Zone C09, Lokogoma District, Abuja, spans 150,500 square meters and contains 753 duplexes and apartments. It was confiscated from former Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele, following a court ruling by Justice Jude Onwuegbuzie on December 2, 2024, due to corruption-related proceedings.

Following the estate’s handover to the Housing Ministry by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Tuesday, the Ministry announced that the housing units would be offered for public sale and government use.

In a Wednesday statement, Dasuki reiterated his earlier call—first made during the last Armed Forces Remembrance Day—for the estate to be allocated exclusively to the military.

“Adequate and decent housing is a critical need for military personnel. The absence of it causes stress, lowers morale, and can impair the effectiveness of our forces,” Dasuki stated.

He emphasized that it was a moral obligation to care for those who defend the nation, describing the forfeiture as both a win in the anti-corruption fight and a chance to make a meaningful impact.

“This is a low-hanging fruit the government can use to improve military welfare, especially in the Federal Capital Territory,” he said.

Dasuki, who chairs the House Committee on Shipping Services, argued that prioritizing the welfare of the military would bolster national security and demonstrate the country’s gratitude for their service.

“Our commitment to those who keep us safe must go beyond words. We must seize this opportunity to act.”

He concluded by urging the National Assembly leadership to engage the executive arm swiftly so the housing units can be allocated before the opportunity is lost.
