The Lagos State Government have demolished unauthorized shelters and street vendors that were erected outside the perimeter gates of several state institutions.
In Ijegun and Ikotun in the state’s Alimosho Local Government Area, representatives of the Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps conducted the operation, which was dubbed Kick Against Indiscipline.
The operation came about as a result of notices served to defaulters for building structures on drainage alignment and illegal structures by perimeter fences, according to state Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources Tokunbo Wahab, who revealed this information in photos posted on his X handle on Monday. Wahab wrote, “In our renewed effort to sanitize school environments across the state, today, I instructed the Special Squad Operatives of #LAGESCOfficial (KAI) to dislodge street traders and demolish illegal shanties on the perimeter fence of Ategbo Nursery and Primary School ljegun Road, Old Garage Bus Stop, Ijegun.
Additionally, for the same reason, the Special Squad conducted enforcement action at the Local Government Primary School, Pako bus stop, Abaranje Road, lkotun, Lagos State.

The operation took place after statutory notices about blatant violations of the 2017 Lagos State Environmental Management Planning Law’s provisions regarding the construction of unlawful buildings along the perimeter fence and roadside and the placement of structures on drainage alignments ran out.

“We need to address this widespread trend head-on because it is not only concerning but also completely unacceptable in our school environment. It has made enforcement necessary.”
State citizens have urged the administration to expand the programme to other regions with comparable positions.

In response to the commissioner’s tweet, user Abass Oladepo stated that Ago Palace Way in the state’s Okota region need comparable care.

“Nice work, sir,” he wrote. Ago Okota, this is slowly making its way home. In Ago, where even the main road has been converted into a waste centre, I wish to see you accomplish some of these same exploits. That Community Road is still the main focus, sir.

“Owoseni Primary School Oshodi, directly beside and behind Oshodi Local Government Secretariat needs your urgent attention,” commented Kunle Oguns, a different user. I appreciate all that you do for Lagos.
