Owners of buildings demolished on the Lagoon View Estate, Ibeshe, in the Igbogbo-Bayeku Local Council Development Area, Ikorodu, Lagos, have said they will drag the Lagos State Government, the Attorney General of the state and other persons that were part of the demolition to court.

The residents spoke on Tuesday, a year after buildings were demolished on the estates, while the owners were forcefully evicted.

peaking on behalf of the affected residents, Mr Victor Armstrong, who said his property worth over N100m was pulled down, said buildings that were demolished were worth over N2bn.

Armstrong said, “We have decided to seek redress in the court of law because all efforts to get the government to listen to us have failed. We reported the matter to the Lagos State Ministry of Physical Planning; we wrote a petition to the Lagos State Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode; we also led a protest to the governor’s office without getting any response.”

He stated further that the residents also approached the state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Adeniji Kazeem, and also sought government intervention on the issue at the Citizens Mediation Centre, but they were ignored based on “instruction from above.”

He accused a man, identified simply as Oki, of being behind the demolition, alleging that he had boasted that he was untouchable.

He lamented that the turn-out of events since they were rendered homeless had given credence to Oki’s boast.PUNCH
