Residents of Orozo Mass Housing Estate otherwise called CAJAAH Estate in Nassarawa State have raised alarm over continued invasion of the estate by thugs.
Mr Mathias Amuta, the Chairman of CAJAAH Housing Estate Landlords Association, in Abuja on Friday that lives and property of residents were under siege by thugs.
Amuta who solicited for support from Nasarawa State Government, said the thugs had resorted to brutalising and assaulting residents.
He explained that the thugs were hired by a faction of CAJAAH Nig. LTD, Promoters of the estate, in defiance to a court order, to harass and intimidate peace abiding residents.
The chairman expressed worry over the state of impunity of the thugs whom he said displayed lawlessness and rascality even in the presence of policemen.
“We are calling on Nasarawa State Government to come to our rescue because we suspect compromise and complicity on the part of the police posted here.
“The DPO has failed to implement the court order by a competent court but instead recognised the presence and operations of thugs here,” Amuta said.
He said the thugs recently attacked a resident in her house inflicting injuries on the woman and her children which resulted in the hospitalisation of one member of the household.
Amuta recalled that the residents committed no crime but simply refusing to be allowed to be scammed by a faction of the CAJAAH company, after having spent over N600, 000,000 for infrastructure.
He said none of the infrastructure for which the residents paid had been provided and the money not accounted for.
Mr Shittu Dayo, a resident, bemoaned the level of harassment and threats by the said thugs whom he said were more than 50 in number.
Dayo who queried the sanity of Nigeria’s society, wondered how thugs with criminal antecedents could be allowed to man the gate of an estate in defiance to court order.
He called on Nasarawa State Government to immediately call the Divisional Police Officer to order, describing the alleged compromise as an insult to the sensibility and image of Nigeria Police Force.
When confronted with the allegation, the DPO of Karshi Police Station, Mr Yakubu Agi, referred NAN to the commissioner of police in Nasarawa State, saying the matter was being investigated by the Police Division in Karu Local Government Area of the state.
Meanwhile, a source at Karu Police Division said the matter was within the jurisdiction of the Police Division in Karshi. NAN
