Residents of Eleyewo, Ilu Abo, Bolorunduro, and surrounding areas in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State are appealing to the state government and aid organizations for assistance following a destructive rainstorm that caused significant property damage.

The storm struck on Monday evening, leading to damages estimated in millions of naira, affecting vehicles, shops, and churches. Fortunately, no lives were lost during the incident.

Eyewitnesses reported that the rain, which began around 6:30 PM, escalated into a violent storm, with strong winds damaging rooftops and other properties. The storm severely impacted LA Primary School in Ilu Abo and the Redeemed Christian Church, where iron roofing sheets and ceilings were destroyed.

Victims like Mr. Lukmon Haruna described the devastation, stating, “The storm destroyed my shop and goods. We could not salvage anything while the downpour lasted.” He urged Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and philanthropists to provide assistance.

Another victim, Mrs. Funmilayo Fadimu, echoed this sentiment, pleading for help to repair her damaged home and shop.

In response, Governor Aiyedatiwa, through Chief Press Secretary Mr. Ebenezer Adeniyan, expressed sympathy for the victims and announced that officials from the State Emergency Management Agency would assess the damage and recommend government assistance.

Residents remain hopeful for timely support to recover from the storm’s impact.
