Road Dualisation in FCT to Cause 14-Day Power Outage

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a scheduled 14-day power outage in Abuja, effective from Monday, January 6, to Monday, January 20, 2025.

This is due to the ongoing dualisation of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) roads, which has affected several transmission towers along the Kukwaba/Apo 132kV line on the Outer Southern Expressway.

During this period, TCN will dismantle and reconstruct eight towers while restringing power cables to ensure the resumption of bulk electricity supply to the Apo Transmission Substation from Gwagwalada Substation. The planned outage will occur daily between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Affected Areas: The power outage will impact several communities and regions, including:Kubwa, Karu, Maraba, Nyanya, Masaka, Keffi, Kukwaba, and Apo Mechanic.Parts of Lugbe, Trademore Estate, Pyakasa, Sabon Lugbe, Chika, and Alaita.

Additional areas identified by Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) include: Lugbe environs, Airport Road, Kapwa, NNPC, Games Village, National Stadium, Christ Embassy Church, American International School, EFCC Headquarters, Coca-Cola, Railway, FMC, parts of Apo, Gudu, Gbazango, Bwari, Jahi, Jabi, Karu, Nyanya, Mararaba, and other environs.While the relocation of towers is critical for the road dualisation project, TCN and AEDC have apologised for the disruptions. They assure residents that efforts are underway to restore power promptly after the necessary works are completed.

This planned outage underscores TCN’s commitment to infrastructure development, even as it seeks public understanding and cooperation during this temporary inconvenience.
