The Rubochi Development Association (RUDA) in Kuje Area Council has called on Chairman Abdullahi Suleiman Sabo to accelerate the rebuilding of houses demolished for road construction within the council’s metropolis.
At the annual RUDA Day celebration held in Rubochi on Thursday, RUDA President Mr. Pada Ibrahim Tukura expressed concern for residents whose homes were torn down years ago, emphasizing that the promised reconstruction has yet to commence.
Tukura highlighted that many affected families are currently squatting with relatives and neighbors, raising worries as the rainy season approaches. He noted that while some rebuilding efforts had begun, they halted abruptly at the lintel stage, leaving many residents in limbo.
“There are individuals whose homes were demolished during the ongoing road construction, and the chairman had promised to rebuild them. However, work has stopped midway, and nothing has been done for others,” he said. He urged the council chairman to expedite the rebuilding process to ensure families can return to their homes before the rains start.
Also addressing the gathering, Comrade Abdullahi A. Galadima presented a paper on “The Role of Association in Community Development in an Effective Democracy.” He emphasized how associations contribute economically through cooperative societies that provide soft loans, and socially by offering essential services such as security and healthcare.
Former RUDA President Comrade Joseph Yakwo acknowledged Rubochi’s history of producing prominent civil servants in the FCTA and FCDA. However, he pointed out the pressing issues of inadequate electricity and access to clean water, urging authorities to take action to resolve these challenges. He also commended FCT Minister Nyesom Wike for improving infrastructure, particularly the rehabilitation of township roads in Rubochi.
