Sani Mu’azu the grandson of Late Alhaji Kabiru Nalele, insists that the so called experts behind the collapsed building should be brought to book instead of apportioning blames to the owner of the building.

The three-story building that collapsed in Jos, the Plateau State capital on Monday the 15th of july 2019. The building was located at Butcher Lane in Jos North Local Government Area which belonged to one Rufai Kabiru (Nalele), who was killed along side with several others in the collapsed building.

Kabiru was not a structural engineer so he couldn’t have been aware that experts he engaged in doing this contract might have not been competent enough to handle this, If questions must be raised, they should be raised against the structural Engineer that was contracted to raise the building in the first place, about the integrity of the foundation of the structure and that of the materials used.

Questions should be asked about the qualifications of this expert who, by training, should know better enough not to compromise his own professional integrity, even if it was tested. The onus of reporting to the authorities, where he noticed that shortcuts were been taken by the owner or other contractors on site.

Pictures  of a rickety building at Sabon Pegi Jos, has also been making rounds on social media platforms, it is occupied with tenants and children also go there for Islamiyya , it is a perfect image of another disaster in view.

Now on this particular building the owner has to be held to account if anything goes wrong because, obviously, it has accomplished its purpose for social usage and now poses danger to the community.

Proper investigation and follow up need to be carried out on these and other buildings that has collapsed in recent times and not apportioning the blame to the owner of the house and leaving out the expert.
