Smart Homes to dominate 2019 Architects Colloquium

Participants at the annual architecture forum named Architects Colloquium have arrived Abuja for their event.

The three-day conference organised by the Architects Registration Council of Nigeria (ARCON) is holding at the Shehu Musa Yar’adua Centre.

The event which which focuses on Smart Homes ends on Friday.

Dignitaries expected at the official opening of event tomorrow are: the Minister of Power Works and Housing Babatunde Fashola, Minister of Environment Suleiman Hassan Zarma, FCT Minister Muhammad Musa Bello and the Head of Service of the Federation Winifred Oyo-Ita among other stakeholders.

The president of ARCON, Mr Dipo Ajayi told Viewpoint Housing News that council is prepared to use architecture for the nation’s development.

Ajayi noted that the 2019 edition is aimed at providing stakeholders the opportunity to deliberate on issues that affect Nigeria as a growing nation and to prepare architects towards nation building.

He said council will achieve this through smart homes and learning from expertise of other countries who have successfully applied the system.

Ajayi explained, “Smart homes are a set of buildings that can be operated through the use of technology and also enhance security of properties.

“So the young ones are lucky because they have a lot to learn from this conference as so many papers will be presented on the challenges and the way forward for architecture in Nigeria.”

In his remarks the Registrar of ARCON, Mr Umar Murinai described the forum as avenue that brings together architects from various states of Nigeria.

The programme is themed “Architecture and the National Development Agenda”. Sub-theme is “Reworking the Past of Architecture Contemporary Issues in Architecture and New Frontiers in Architecture.”
