The Taraba State Government has teamed up with the Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF) to strengthen conservation efforts and boost eco-tourism activities across the state.

During a courtesy visit to the Deputy Governor, Alhaji Aminu Alkali, at the Government House in Jalingo, the NCF delegation led by its Director General, Dr. Joseph Onoja, discussed strategies to protect Taraba’s rich biodiversity and enhance its eco-tourism potential.

Dr. Onoja highlighted the foundation’s ongoing work at the Gashaka-Gumti National Park, Nigeria’s largest park, located within the state. He stressed the park’s importance for environmental preservation, research, and tourism development.

He also called for increased government collaboration to promote sustainable environmental practices, combat deforestation, and support local communities involved in conservation efforts.

Responding, Deputy Governor Alkali reaffirmed Taraba’s commitment to environmental protection. He assured the NCF of the government’s readiness to partner on initiatives that will preserve the environment, create jobs through eco-tourism, and empower rural communities.

“We are proud of our natural heritage and will work closely with partners like NCF to protect it for future generations,” Alkali said.

Taraba, known for its scenic landscapes and diverse wildlife, aims to position itself as a leading eco-tourism destination in Nigeria.
