A tragic building collapse at Northern Vulture Estate, Chevron Drive, Lagos, has claimed the lives of three people, including a teenage boy, while six others sustained serious injuries.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed the incident on Wednesday, stating that a 15-year-old boy and two adult men were recovered from the rubble but were pronounced dead at the scene. Their remains were handed over to officials from the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU).
Emergency responders managed to rescue six other victims, who received immediate medical attention. Following the rescue operations, authorities completely demolished the collapsed structure to ensure safety.
The affected building, a two-story structure still under construction, suddenly gave way, though the exact cause remains unknown. LASEMA officials assured the public that investigations would be conducted to determine the factors leading to the collapse.
Initially, one fatality and four injuries were reported, but the death toll later rose to three as more victims were recovered.
Building collapses have been a recurring issue in Lagos, raising concerns about construction standards and regulatory compliance. Authorities have urged developers and contractors to adhere strictly to safety regulations to prevent future tragedies.
Further updates will be provided as investigations continue.
