Nine persons have been declared missing after a building collapse that killed eight on Monday in east China’s Jiangsu Province, local authorities have said.
The incident happened at around 3:33 pm Monday (local Chinese time in a hotel in Wujiang District in the city of Suzhou.
Rescue efforts are still ongoing, and the cause of the collapse is under investigation according to the Xinhua News Agency.
It published photographs of rescue workers combing through rubble in the search for survivors.
The Ministry of Emergency Management sent a team to help with the rescue work, media reported. The Siji Kaiyuan is a budget hotel that opened in 2018. The part that collapsed was three storeys tall while an online booking site said the hotel had 54 rooms.
