Many rooms of the five-star Sheraton Hotel in Abuja are disused due to deteriorating conditions, Viewpoint Housing News has gathered.

It was observed that as many as 200 rooms might be out of use.

The worn out walls and floors of the derelict hotel buildings have peeled and cracked.

Roofs also leak.

A frequent guest said the once exquisite Sheraton has “lost its spark long ago”, adding that the hotel is living on past glory.

A man who has a business premises near the hotel told our reporter that management might be unperturbed by the facility’s many years of decay because it still makes huge revenue from event organisers who continually hold events in the hotels’ ballroom popularly known as the Ladi Kwali Hall.

Our reporter who visited the facility noted that some parts of the hotel appear to be undergoing renovation.

Efforts to speak with management failed, however a personnel in the room service section said the disused rooms are awaiting renovation, contrary to commonly held opinion that the hotel lacks customers.

He said the hotel is working toward upgrading its facilities to catch up with modern trends in the hospitality industry.

It was hard establishing when the renovation works will finish.

The Sheraton, one of the earliest and leading luxury hotels in Abuja boasts of a night club, swimming pool, gym, sauna, spa and world class restaurant and bar.
