Abuja – February 13, 2024 – Viewpoint Housing News.

President Bola Tinubu instructed Ministers David Umahi of the Ministry of Works and Nyesom Wike of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to commence building access roads that would connect all of the new ‘Renewed Hope Cities and Estates’ locations in Abuja and around the nation.

Mark Chiese, the Special Advisor to Ahmed Dangiwa, the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, said in a statement over the weekend that the action was consistent with the federal government’s attempt to fulfil its commitment to enhance the welfare of Nigerians by providing them with adequate and affordable housing.

According to the statement, President Tinubu underlined the need of making these cities and estates livable, safe, and accessible in order to relieve traffic in city centres. It also mentioned the programme, which would see the delivery of 50,000 housing units of various home types in the first phase.
It went on to say that “the 20,000 housing units planned for the FCT alone will create 500,000 jobs,” adding that “new city developments are also an important instrument of massive job creation and economic development.”

It added that the event was held in tandem with the groundbreaking ceremony for the 20,000 housing units that would be built in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), starting with a pilot project for 3,112 units in the Karsana District.

The Federal Ministry of housing and Urban Development is carrying out the project, which has a total of 100,000 dwelling units nationwide, starting with the first phase in the Federal Capital Territory, under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.
It cited a statement from Ajuri Ngelale, the president’s special adviser on media and publicity, emphasising that the president reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to offering Nigerians quality, reasonably priced accommodation. In light of this, I am instructing the Federal Capital Territory Minister and the Works Minister to build access roads for all Renewed Hope Cities and Estates Projects, beginning with this Karsana location, in order to improve accessibility and livability.

The statement went on, “This is because my administration believes that every Nigerian deserves to have access to affordable and adequate shelter.”

It was mentioned that integrated living communities—which would be constructed countrywide for Nigerians—will revolutionise what it means to live in a residential community.

It highlighted that the president’s goal is to create vibrant, self-sufficient communities that are interconnected and have all the facilities people need to live better lives.

It went on to quote Tinubu as saying, “This includes well-connected access and internal roads, provision of reliable and uninterrupted electricity, healthcare facilities to offer accessible and quality medical services, and educational institutions to provide learning environments that nurture knowledge and skills.”

The president applauded the innovativeness of the Housing Ministry in taking advantage of PPP collaborations that attract domestic, foreign, and diaspora investments.

He said the federal government aims to design and implement incentive schemes, boost Nigeria’s capital market while enhancing the governance and risk management frameworks to ensure their stability, transparency and integrity.

He emphasised his resolve to face the housing challenge with the clarity of purpose and determination that is required to break all the barriers that stand in the way of success.
