President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) administration to ensure that the ongoing infrastructural developments translate into political success for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming 2027 elections. Speaking during the Eid-el-Fitr homage at the State House in Abuja, Tinubu subtly reminded FCT Minister Nyesom Wike of the political implications tied to his achievements.
Reflecting on their earlier discussions, Tinubu recounted Wike’s request to be freed from constraints posed by the Treasury Single Account (TSA) to enhance his administration’s effectiveness. The President emphasized that the successful execution of Wike’s initiatives would be crucial for both the party and Wike’s position.
Tinubu praised Wike’s efforts in revitalizing long-abandoned projects and improving healthcare and education facilities in the FCT. Specific accomplishments highlighted include the completion of the Vice President’s residence and the rehabilitation of health centers.
He remarked, “Today, we are living in peace, security is improving, and food prices are lowering. We are able to go to the market and do business.” This underscores the administration’s focus on tangible improvements for the populace.
Moreover, Tinubu lauded Wike’s ability to lead effectively in a region outside his ethnic background, showcasing Nigeria’s diversity as a strength. He urged Nigerians to uphold values of compassion and unity, particularly in light of lessons learned during Ramadan.
In response, Wike outlined significant reforms undertaken by the FCT administration, including the establishment of the FCT Civil Service Commission and the creation of new secretariats for women and youths. He expressed gratitude for Tinubu’s support and confidence in his leadership, promising more impactful projects in the near future.
As the administration approaches its second anniversary, Wike extended an invitation to Tinubu for the commissioning of several completed projects, emphasizing their commitment to national development.
The event was attended by key figures, including Vice President Kashim Shettima and other prominent officials, reflecting the diverse representation of Nigeria’s capital city.
