The Minister of Works, Sen. David Umahi, has revealed that several sections of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and the Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway are set to be commissioned by May 2025. This announcement highlights the government’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure across the country.

In a statement released by his media aide, Orji Uchenna Orji, Umahi outlined that there are four Renewed Hope legacy projects, along with ongoing projects inherited across the six geopolitical zones, all on track for completion by the targeted date.

“Work is progressing on the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, and the Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway is also moving forward,” Umahi stated. He noted that significant progress has been made, particularly on the first 120 kilometers of the Sokoto section, which is currently being developed by Hitech using concrete materials. Additionally, work is underway on the Kebbi section, spanning 250 kilometers.

Umahi expressed confidence in the timelines, stating, “We believe strongly that we’ll be able to commission about 20 kilometers in both sections by May 29th. In section one of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway in the Southwest, we are very sure that we’ll commission the first 20 kilometers in section one and 10 kilometers in section two.”

The minister commended the intervention of President Muhammadu Buhari in securing funding for these crucial projects, despite the government’s focus on various critical sectors of the economy. He also mentioned that all four legacy projects incorporate train tracks, with operations set to begin in 2025.

The completion of these highways is expected to significantly improve transportation and connectivity within the regions, contributing to economic growth and development.
